About Our Store

Our DYSL Wearhouse Thrift Store is the heart of our organization. With 90% of our funding coming through our store, it is the regenerative foundation of our work - a place where community members can discover lower-cost, sustainable items, where youth and seniors alike can volunteer, and where young people can develop leadership skills. Funds generated through our store are cycled back into the community through various skill-building programs and our annual bursary fund.

Donations

We gratefully accept donations in good/excellent condition. Donations are accepted Tuesday to Saturday 9:30 am – 3 pm.

Wednesday & Friday - 3 Bag Limit

Items we accept include:

  • up-to-date clean clothing for women, men and children

  • books

  • jewelry

  • small furniture (no springs allowed)

  • sporting goods

  • home decor and small housewares, small appliances, tools, etc.

We cannot accept mattresses, bedroom pillows, encyclopedias, TVs (unless flat screen), old computers, or larger furniture. Other items may not be accepted if we are short on storage space at that time.

If possible, please ensure that bags do not exceed 20 lbs per bag, for the benefit of our volunteers.

We are so grateful for every cash or thrift store donation we receive. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Donations over a certain value can receive a charitable tax receipt.

Sustainability and Reciprocity

To us, sustainability means more than environmental sustainability.  We seek to approach our work from a place of abundance and reciprocity, through robust recycling programs and giving to other charities and families.

We try hard to recycle everything! Metal, electronics, plastics, glass bottles and paper are taken to the recycling depot by our volunteers. Cardboard is picked up monthly to be recycled. Clothing, footwear, purses and belts that are not in usable condition are sent to a recycling plant.

In the spirit of abundance, we also seek to support youth, families and workers, both inside our community and out. Each year, we support youth-in-need through an annual Christmas gift donation program. Throughout the year, we also provide warm clothing, socks, underwear, toiletries and sleeping bags to Downtown Eastside and Surrey shelters. Blankets, sheets, and towels that cannot be used by us or our charitable partners, and sent to various animal rescues and service dog providers.

Join Our Volunteer Team!

At our store, each member of our team is treated with dignity and respect. Our store is over 90% volunteer-run. We believe that volunteering should be a fun, safe, and friendly environment. Visit our Volunteers page for more information on how to volunteer.
